Lake County Botanical Garden is taking root.
What began as a community vision is moving into active planning, partnership-building, and site development. This conceptual rendering illustrates the potential character of a future garden—a welcoming place where people, plants, education, conservation, and community come together.
As planning moves forward, the garden will continue to be community-informed, community-imagined, and community-designed, shaped through public participation, environmental review, Tribal consultation, and collaboration with regional partners. The final design will respond to the ecology of the site, the priorities of Lake County communities, and the shared vision of those who help bring it to life.
Lake County is home to remarkable natural landscapes, rich agricultural traditions, and communities deeply connected to the land. Yet we do not have a dedicated public botanical garden that brings those resources together in one accessible place.
Lake County Botanical Garden is being developed to help fill that gap.
We envision a place where people can learn, explore, gather, and connect with nature—from native plants and pollinator habitat to horticulture, conservation, agriculture, and hands-on environmental education.
But a botanical garden can be more than a beautiful place to visit. It can help strengthen our community by supporting climate resilience, water-wise landscapes, habitat restoration, accessible outdoor experiences, workforce development, and new opportunities in horticulture and the green economy.
For children, it can be an outdoor classroom. For gardeners and landowners, a place to discover plants suited to our climate. For visitors, a new way to experience Lake County. For researchers, growers, conservationists, and community partners, it can become a place to learn from one another and put good ideas into practice.
Lake County deserves a place where community, education, and conservation grow together.

Lake County Botanical Garden is envisioned on the unceded ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples of the Clear Lake region. We recognize that these lands have long been stewarded through Indigenous knowledge and cultural relationships with plants and place. Acknowledging this history is only a beginning. We approach this work with respect and with intention: to listen, learn, and nurture relationships that honor the enduring presence and knowledge of the region’s Indigenous communities.

Lake County Botanical Garden is a growing nonprofit organization working to create a public botanical garden rooted in the landscapes, communities, and agricultural heritage of Lake County, California.
More than a garden, we envision a place where community, education, and conservation come together—connecting people with plants through environmental education, native and climate-adapted gardens, conservation, horticulture, accessible outdoor experiences, and hands-on learning.
With community outreach underway, partnerships growing, and potential sites now being actively explored, Lake County Botanical Garden is moving from an idea toward a lasting community resource for Lake County.
